We Are Not Alone
Behind the video
A hand reaching out.
“We Are Not Alone” is probably the most personal and vulnerable thing I’ve ever shared publicly. I wrote it as a hand reaching out across the distance we sometimes feel between ourselves and the world. This animated video gives that feeling a story you can see.
At the heart of it is a moment that means a great deal to me: my older self holding the little boy I used to be. For me, that’s a way of going back in my mind and offering him the comfort he needs.
“I’m here for you. It’s okay that you’re scared.”
The song also came from realizing that I can be strong and still need people. My wife, my family, my friends, and the people who care about me are there for me. Sometimes connection begins with something as simple as asking, “Can you listen for a minute?”
That sense of connection reaches into nature, into each other, and into the source of life itself. My hope is that this video offers you a moment of belonging—and reminds you that your presence matters here.
